From the South
M6 north to junction 40 (Penrith). Head west on the A66 signposted Keswick / Cockermouth / Workington. Stay on the A66 by-passing Keswick and the villages of Portinscale, Braithwaite and Thornthwaite. Bassenthwaite Lake will be on your right. About 1.5 miles after the end of the dual-carriageway turn right signposted Embleton. You will see the Embleton Spa (formerly the Derwent Lodge) Hotel in front of you. At the top of the hill turn left. The Wheatsheaf Inn is on your right. Orchard House is 400 yards further along on the same side as the Wheatsheaf Inn.
As an alternative of travelling north on the M6 to Penrith you can leave the motorway at junction 36 (Kendal) and travel up through the lakes. At Keswick follow signs for A66 Cockermouth/Workington then follow directions as above
